Pith — Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 15, 2026

This policy applies to Pith on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, Linux, and web, developed by Randes Labs. Pith is a fully offline, no-account notes app — your notes never leave your device. There are no servers, no cloud sync, and no accounts. This policy explains what stays on your device, what we never collect, and how you remain in full control of your notes.

What We Collect

Pith stores the following data locally on your device only:

  • Note content — titles and bodies you write, including markdown formatting
  • Tags you create and assign to notes
  • Timestamps for when each note was created and last edited
  • Text you share into Pith from another app's share sheet, saved as a new note
  • App settings and display preferences

What We Don't Collect

Pith does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

  • Your name, email address, or any account information
  • Location or GPS data
  • Biometric data of any kind
  • Photos, images, or audio
  • Device identifiers or advertising IDs
  • IP addresses or network information
  • Crash reports or diagnostics sent to external servers

How Your Data Is Used

Your notes power the app's core features: search, tagging, and Pulse — an entirely on-device view of your writing activity (streaks, an activity heatmap, and notes-over-time).

All of this processing happens locally on your device. Nothing is sent to a server. The legal basis for this processing is the performance of the service you requested (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR) — we process only what is necessary to operate the app's features.

Data Storage & Security

All data is stored in a local SQLite database on your device, protected by your operating system's security model. We have no access to this database. The data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it using the in-app export feature. On macOS, the release build's app entitlements exclude network client access entirely, so the app cannot make outbound connections even if it tried.

Data is retained on your device until you delete the app or manually clear its storage. If you delete the app, all associated data is removed. There is no cloud copy to delete separately.

Data Export & Portability

You own your notes. Pith lets you export your complete note history as JSON at any time, with a stable identifier per note so re-importing the same file never creates duplicates.

This is a local file transfer only — no data is uploaded anywhere. You can save, share, or archive the file however you like.

Third-Party Services

Pith does not integrate with any third-party service for advertising, analytics, crash reporting, or any other purpose. The app contains no SDKs from Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel, Sentry, or any similar service.

We do not sell, share, rent, or trade your data — personal or otherwise — to any third party, for any purpose. No international data transfers occur.

Your Rights

Because all data is stored exclusively on your device, you have direct control over it at all times. You can access your data by using the app, correct it by editing entries in the app, export it in full via JSON, and erase it by deleting the app.

EU residents have the right to lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority if they believe their rights under GDPR have not been respected. Since we collect no data remotely, we are unable to fulfill requests directed to us — all actions must be taken on-device.

Children's Privacy

Pith is not directed at children under 13. Since we collect no personal information from anyone, no data about children is stored on our systems. If a child has used the app, a parent or guardian can delete all associated data at any time by deleting the app from the device.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this policy, the new version will be published at this URL with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
